Chamber President Patrick O'Reilly with Student Award Recipient, Hayato Nakabayashi

Hayato Nakabayashi

Hayato is an excellent and insightful student. His academic advisor noted that Hayato’s thesis is based in the field of human resource development and explores the work experiences of Asian, gay male, immigrants in the Canadian workplace.

He is researching how this group mitigates experiences with homophobia and racism at work. This research is urgently needed given the increasingly diverse Canadian society and the continuing drive for Canadian workplaces to be LGBT friendly.

Hayato seeks to ensure that not only are workplaces LGBT friendly, but also friendly to those LGBT people who identify with different communities. His work is expanding the concept of diversity in the workplace in light of recent trends in multiculturalism and transnational mobility.
